After chatting with Al a bit about RGB landscape lights with better optics, he suggested that instead I just buy a cheap fixture and replace the white LED internals with my own LED enturely. Not sure why this idea didn't stick as soon as I figured out I didn't like the LEDs on v1.
Purschasing an RGB LED "bead" and pairing wit with a cheap lens allows for the most control. This approach will likely requre a simple spacer (which I should be able to easily draft and 3D print) to properly sandwich everything in place.
Summary of ideas:
While browsing the available LED options in that Amazon link I noticed they also offer it in a 940nm wavelength which made me think it might make one hell of a TV-B-Gone.
